Looks are deceiving

So dinner looked promising:


It was not.  Abject failure. I withdraw my earlier comments about the Minimalist Baker. The "mozzarella" was something akin to Elmer's. We put so much Tiger Sauce on it our lips burned - but so we couldn't taste it that way. The remainder was disposed of appropriately.


Nothing to add to this. Fail.

Meat substitute?

On our last visit to the international market here, we got some King Oyster Mushrooms. When I looked them up, I read about them being a great meat substitute, so I immediately became interested, in spite of their appearance.  That is about 10 inches long. You slice it, marinate it (we used a mix of mirin and tamari), and cook it in a skillet, then serve it over rice, which now only comes in brown at our house. We also stir-fried some other veggies to go with it.  The result was not meat-like, although had the potential to be tasty. I think grilling might work better, but it's in the teens here, so I think that will need to wait another day or two.  I have also pulled the dehydrator back into regular use. Slices of mango sprinkled with chia do well. I also like Asian Pears. I do not like red beets, but made some beet chips for Vicki because I am a wonderful person who will gladly pass the beets off to someone else. Hold the humanitarian awards for someone else. Ha
